This episode of podmissum features Jackson Katz. Dr. Katz is an anti-sexist male activist, as well as an educator, author, filmmaker, and cultural theorist. He is internationally recognized for his groundbreaking work in the field of gender violence prevention education and critical media literacy. He is the co-founder of the Mentors In Violence Prevention program, the leading gender violence prevention initiative in professional and college athletics. Dr. Katz is also the creator and co-creator of educational videos for college and high school students as well as the author of two books: The Macho Paradox: Why Some Men Hurt Women and How All Men Can Help and Leading Men: Presidential Campaigns and the Politics of Manhood.
Dr. Katz spoke at Trinity’s Upper School Community Time on 10 February 2014 and made an evening presentation to parents and students on 11 February 2014. This podcast is mostly drawn from the evening presentation, although some parts of the Community Time presentation have been woven in. The evening presentation was jointly sponsored by Trinity School, Ethical Culture Fieldston School, and Riverdale Country School. We begin with John Allman, Trinity's head of school, who introduces the evening’s program, followed by Mariama Richards, director of progressive and multicultural education at Ethical Culture Fieldston School, and Trinity student Jon Rodriguez '14.
