David A. Lifson ’68, is a partner with Crowe LLP based in New York City and a leader of the firm’s national Global Private Client Service tax and business consultancy practice, where he develops business strategies and personal financial plans utilizing both his and the firm’s broad range of accounting, audit, tax and business consulting backgrounds, both domestically and internationally.

Lifson was co-managing partner of Hays & Co. LLP for nearly thirty years, until the firm joined Crowe in 2009. He has been an active member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) for much of his career and is a recipient of the Arthur Dixon Award, the highest award given by the accounting profession in the area of taxation. He currently serves on their governing council, the tax reform task force, and as chair of the AICPA’s National Tax Conference.

Lifson has served on the Internal Revenue Service’s Advisory Council, the senior private sector advisory body to the IRS, and chaired its Small Business/Self-Employed Subgroup through 2011. He is also a former president of the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants.

Lifson is an accomplished author, lecturer, speaker, panelist, and media commentator on various tax and business topics. He has been named one of Accounting Today’s “Top 100” people in the accounting profession, for several years. Lifson has testified before Congress and his expertise is frequently sought out by the media, including The Wall Street Journal and The CPA Journal, where he has also been featured representing the Certified Public Accountants profession.

Lifson talked in his office about taxes, tax code, and the recently passed Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017.

An international religious leader, philosopher, award-winning author, and respected moral voice, Rabbi Sacks was awarded the 2016 Templeton Prize in recognition of his “exceptional contributions to affirming life’s spiritual dimension.” Since stepping down as the Chief Rabbi of the United Hebrew Congregations of the Commonwealth—a position he held between 1991 and 2013—he has held a number of professorships at several academic institutions including Yeshiva University and King’s College London. Rabbi Sacks currently serves as the Ingeborg and Ira Rennert Global Distinguished Professor of Judaic Thought at New York University. He has received seventeen honorary doctorates.

Rabbi Sacks is the author of over thirty books. His most recent work, Not in God’s Name: Confronting Religious Violence was awarded a 2015 National Jewish Book Award. Past works include: The Great Partnership: God, Science and the Search for Meaning; The Home We Build Together; The Dignity of Difference: How to Avoid the Clash of Civilizations; To Heal a Fractured World: The Ethics of Responsibility; and A Letter in the Scroll: On Being Jewish, winner of a National Jewish Book Award in 2000. His "Covenant & Conversation" commentaries are read in Jewish communities around the world.

As part of the Rudin Foundation Lecture series, Rabbi Sacks was invited to speak at Trinity on the evening of 15 March 2018 to discuss his book, The Home We Build Together and to share his thoughts on covenant and community. The podcast begins with an introduction by Head of School John Allman.
